Test standard for chip strap in 397:2012 & 397:2025

June 01, 2026

Do you know the difference of chin strap between 397:2012 & 397:2025? šŸ‘ Under the EN397:2012 version, the tensile requirements of EN 397 and EN 12492 were fundamentally conflicting. EN 397:2012 required the chinstrap to break or release between 150N–250N to prevent strangulation, whereas EN 12492 required it not to break even at 500N.   However, the EN 397:2025 standard introduced a classification into Type 1 and Type 2. Type 2 is specifically designed for high-altitude industrial environments, and its chinstrap tensile test directly aligns with EN 12492 (retaining more than 500N with an extension limit of 25mm).  šŸ˜Š
